Mustard-hating, sausage-loving angels

Ever been to a sausage sizzle out the front of Masters or Bunnings and bitten into a freshly barbecued hot dog with onions and sauce of your favourite condiment, knowing all the while your $2.50 was going to a worthy cause? Well on Saturday, fundraising group Jay's Angels did their first sausage sizzle out the front of a Masters hardware store to raise funds for the Cancer Council's Relay for Life. For those who may not remember, earlier this year I participated in my first Relay for Life … [Read more...]

Bellies are filled and the pennies counted

Hungry bellies have been filled and the tally is in for my weekend RSPCA Cupcake Day fundraiser. Counting up both online and cash donations to a cause close to my heart, I'm proud to announce that thanks to overwhelming generosity, an electrifying $480 has been raised in just four days! My online donor page will still be active for about a month if anyone wants to help raise it to $500! It was a challenge, baking 72 cupcakes...but the exhaustion that followed was worth it and knowing there … [Read more...]

Who would have known baking 72 cupcakes could be so exhausting?!

With the weekend now behind me, I have successfully baked and decorated by 72nd cupcake to raise money for the RSPCA. Cupcake Day is tomorrow on August 20 and I'm freakin' exhausted! Yesterday I just baked 24 vanilla cupcakes whilst today I bore the brunt of the remainder - half chocolate, half vanilla. I'm quite impressed with the way they taste given the delicious delights are made out of the most simplest ingredients...the tough task was decorating them; that is certainly not my … [Read more...]

And so the cupcake challenge begins…

In my attempt to bake cupcakes to raise money for the RSPCA this weekend, I started the day with a leisurely stroll through Whiteman Park with my rescue dog Patch. It's going to sound corny, cheesy and what have you but I used it as a time to reflect on what the charity has given me and my family. Patch's backstory? As a puppy, she was given to a woman who was permanently confined to a wheelchair and by the time she was a strapping one year old, it was too difficult for her owner to care for … [Read more...]

Challenge ACCEPTED!

Forces greater than myself even know I can't bake...which is why I've accepted the challenge of baking cupcakes this weekend in preparation for Cupcake Day on Monday, August 20! Tomorrow and Sunday I will be baking and fundraising for the RSPCA where all funds raised will help give a surrendered puppy a home, rescue a neglected pony, provide emergency surgery to an injured kitten and save countless other lives. On Monday, I'll be selling my cupcakes - both normal delicious vanilla … [Read more...]

Tutus and glow sticks in a relay for life

Last weekend an event was held in Perth that is becoming more and more popular every year - the Cancer Council's Relay for Life. The concept is unique - grab a team of friends and family, camp overnight at an athletics stadium and ensure at least one team member is walking or running the track for 24 hours straight; it symbolises the idea that cancer never stops so those entering the relay will never stop over the course of one day. I've never done it before and have to admit, it was never … [Read more...]

Help beat the statistic in ovarian cancer

Killing two birds with one stone, so to speak...this month, I have entered the Channel Ten 1 Million Kilo Challenge where people register online to simply keep track of weight loss goals, get healthy recipes, read tips and connect with others who are looking at losing weight. Whilst on the website registering myself I saw that people could also register on Everyday Hero and raise money for a worthy cause while losing weight. So I signed up and chose Ovarian Cancer Australia - quite fitting … [Read more...]
